Dr. Lizzie McCready

Dr. Lizzie McCready, BVetMed (Hon) CVA, is an equine veterinarian and founder of Empowering Equine Education. Her mission is to elevate the well-being of horses by empowering owners with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to deliver high-quality emergency and first aid care.

An honours graduate of the Royal Veterinary College, Dr. Lizzie also holds certification as a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA). She began her career at a world-class equine hospital in the UK before moving to Australia to serve horses and their owners in a busy equine practice.

After treating hundreds of emergencies, she noticed a pattern: most horse owners struggle to recognise health issues early or respond confidently in a crisis. This gap inspired her to create Empowering Equine Education and Equine Emergency Training.

Since then, Dr. Lizzie has supported horse owners through live masterclasses, online courses, and hands-on workshops. Her growing emergency training community includes over 1,000 students worldwide. She has presented at EQUITANA, published in leading horse magazines, and appeared on multiple equine podcasts.

Dr. Lizzie is committed to helping horse owners respond with calm confidence and competence when their horses need them most.

Because of the Horse...

I am living my childhood dream of being an equine vet - and I get to extend that care beyond my hands by empowering horse owners around the world with the skills and confidence to help their horses in emergency and first aid situations.

DAY 1

The Horse Health Assessment - Mastering Vital Signs [PART 1]

In Part 1, we lay the foundations for confident, effective use of equine vital signs. Many owners know of vital signs, but far fewer feel confident using a stethoscope, measuring all eight, or accurately interpreting what they find. This session explores why mastering vital signs matters, the real-life benefits for everyday care and emergencies, essential equipment (including stethoscope recommendations), and then dives deeply into demeanour, respiratory rate, heart rate, and gut sounds, with video demonstrations, anatomy insights, interpretation, and troubleshooting tips.

DAY 2

The Horse Health Assessment - Mastering Vital Signs [PART 2]

In Part 2, you’ll learn how to accurately assess temperature, digital pulses, mucous membrane colour, capillary refill time, and hydration, with helpful video demonstrations, anatomy insights, interpretation guidance, and troubleshooting tips. We also explore how to use vital signs to monitor your horse’s recovery during and after illness or injury, helping you recognise improvement, plateaus, or early warning signs. Mastering these skills allows you to spot problems sooner, assess your horse with greater confidence, and communicate clearly with your vet. You’ll also receive bonus resources to help you practise at home and build a reliable baseline record for your own horse.
