Paula Curtis

Paula Curtis is a lifelong horsewoman, educator, and founder of the Online Horse Fair and Art Of The Horseman. She has been teaching and training horses and riders since 1994, guided by a deep calling to help horses and the people who love them in ways that feel meaningful, respectful, and grounded in relationship.
Paula believes horses have a unique ability to guide us back to what truly matters. They invite us into presence, awareness, and honesty. Through working with horses, we don’t just learn about training, we learn about the essence life itself.
She created the Online Horse Fair to provide a place where horse owners could explore many different approaches to horsemanship, care, and personal growth, and discover what resonates most. Her vision was to create an environment free from pressure or rigid thinking, where curiosity is encouraged and learning is supported.
Her teaching emphasizes listening, awareness, and honoring the horse as a thinking, feeling partner.
Her mission is rooted in a simple belief: when we learn from the wisdom horses offer, we become more present, more compassionate, and more capable. Creating Better People. Better Horses. And a Better World.
Because of the Horse...
I’ve learned to slow down, to listen more deeply, and to lead with greater awareness and compassion. They’ve shown me how much our presence, our energy, and our willingness to understand can shape the world around us. Every lesson they’ve offered has helped me become a better partner, a better teacher, and a better human. Better People. Better Horses. Better World.

DAY 1
★ The Mounted Body Scan: Awareness Before Action
Before asking anything of your horse, it’s essential to understand where both you and your horse are starting from. You’ll be guided through a mounted body scan that builds awareness of the horse’s mental state and the rider’s physical and emotional landscape.
☆ How to observe and guide your horse’s attention through the ears and eyes
☆ How to enter into a true conversation rather than forcing compliance
☆ How to scan your emotional state and regulate your breathing
This foundational exercise helps riders slow down, notice subtle patterns, and build a clear starting point before moving into stretching or technical work. By becoming an observer of both horse and self, you set the tone for a safer, more harmonious ride.
DAY 2
★ Stretch to Connect: How Presence and Body Awareness Transform Your Ride
When we enter into our horse’s space feeling rushed, tense, or distracted, our horse feels it immediately. Horses live fully in the present moment, and when we learn to join them there, everything begins to change.
☆ Release tension and regulate your breathing
☆ Improve your balance, position, and body awareness
☆ Increase your horse’s relaxation, attentiveness, and trust
☆ Develop better timing, feel, and harmony
☆ Work through fear, stress, and mental distraction
☆ Create a calm, connected foundation for every ride
Whether you ride or work from the ground, these simple practices can transform your relationship and help you experience the harmony that first drew you to horses.
