Warwick Schiller

Born in Australia, Warwick Schiller moved to the US in 1990 at the age of 23 to pursue his dream of becoming a horse trainer. After working under numerous cow-horse trainers he became passionate about the sport of reining. He was heavily involved in reining for 20 years, during which he discovered his next passion, teaching.

In 2010 he started a YouTube channel with the purpose of helping people understand the way horses think and act in order to eliminate common issues and have a more harmonious relationship with their horse. That YouTube channel now boasts over 19 million views, and spawned an online training website that now contains over 650 real time training videos covering all types of horses and issues. Warwick’s primary goal is to create a relaxed, connected horse before he begins any formal training.

Warwick now spends his time between teaching clinics in the USA,  Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and Europe, and adding to his video library. In 2018 he took a hiatus from clinics to qualify and compete at his second World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina, the first being in Kentucky in 2010. He is excited to show people how easy it is to effectively communicate with their horse and create deep authentic relationships here at The Art of the Horseman.

16 Steps To Solving Separation Anxiety Under Saddle. - 25 min. 42 sec. Day 1 Horsemanship

Separation anxiety under saddle is something that many riders struggle with, with problems varying from as small as not being straight on a circle, to dangerous behaviours like rearing or bolting if separated from others on a trail ride.

Warwick Schiller tends to not wait until these problems arise, but works on solving that issue in the early stages of riding a young horse. In this video, he talks about the 16 step process he uses, and clearly illustrates them with footage of a young Warmblood mare who has recently started under saddle and is experiencing her first ride with another horse in the arena. It’s very simple, and very methodical, yet very effective.

How Your Energy Affects Your Horse 31 min. 3 sec. Day 1 Horsemanship

The energy you bring to any situation with a horse will determine the outcome of that situation. Your energy is influenced by your inner dialogue, your inner dialogue, dislikes, and general outlook on life. In this video, Warwick Schiller works with a 17 hand eventing horse at a horse expo who on the ground pushes into his owner and constantly nips at her. He works to communicate with the horse to help him feel heard and safe in his environment, and then goes through the process to help get the same result for the owner.
